In the night, a flower blooms.

It's a smudge of white in a sea of green, almost hidden by the other, more agressive branches of the bush. But Taki sees it nonetheless, the next morning, brings it to his lips and inhales its fragrance. Tugs at it, with enough force that it almost snaps free from its stem, but now it's out in the open for all to see.

Gardenia. Lovely. Secret love. It's a good sign, Taki thinks.
